Cotton Rag Rug

Cotton and its Uses

Cotton is a fiber that has become very useful throughout history for its properties. It grows in a boll that encompasses the seeds of the cotton plant itself, and is regularly grown in subtropical and tropical regions as a shrub native.

cottonCotton grows in fairly good quantities in Pakistan, India, the Americas, and in Africa. There are many uses for cotton, and here are some of the more predominant ones that have been found for the very valuable fiber.

First and foremost, cotton is used to make a large number of different textile products. These include shirts, pants, towels, cotton rag rugs, and all kinds of other fabric-based products.

This is what cotton is probably most known for. Cotton is very popular for use as clothing because it is very breathable and absorbent.

Cotton is also used to make products like fishnets, tents, coffee filters, cotton paper, gunpowder, and in products like bookbinding. In fact, the first paper ever made by the Chinese was made from cotton.

The cotton seed, which is left over after the cotton itself is harvested, is used to make cottonseed oil. After undergoing refining, cottonseed oil can be consumed by humans just like vegetable oil, and is a very popular cooking item for a lot of dishes.

There is even a version of cotton fabric known as “shiny cotton”. this is a type of material that resembles satin, and is popular for use in suits and dress shirts.

The only downside to shiny cotton is its low absorbency. Since it does not absorb moisture very well, it is not fit for some uses. For example, shiny satin does not make a good towel.
